I got the V-Rack as a gift and am wondering what people use it for. I mostly cook chicken (wings, breasts, etc), steaks and am only recently (since discovering this forum) venturing into other things like pizza, brisket, etc. Will I ever take the packaging off it or should I return it and get something more useful like more charcoal?

Personally, I've never used one and am not sure that I ever would. I'd probably be looking to exchange it.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I'm not sure what Peggy does different, if anything. But it's the one dish she's kind of made her own.____________________Aurora, Ontario, Canada

I have one and I think I've used it twice...

I used to have one of those and never used it since I had an XL. Well I got rid of my XL and only have a MBGE and MM. I definitely could use a V-rack now with multiple ribs on my MBGE because I have to cut the ribs in half to get them to fit. I wish I had one now.

I've used it on the large to drape briskets and keep them out of the heat before they start to shrink. I always use them with butts, it seems like I always lose less bark to the rack than I ever did with the grate, and it is super easy to get the butt off the grill and into the house being able to carry it by the rack.

I keep thinking I'm going to use it to hold racks of ribs, but so far I've only cooked one rack at a time, just for me and my wife, so I haven't needed it.

I have one and in the past I used it to do butts on. I place the butts on an oven roaster pan on top of the grid. I put and inverted plate setter underneath.
I have found the v rack is not necessary for the butts. Some people may use theirs for ribs but I don't use it for that either. -
Used mine twice.------------------------------

Glad to hear I'm not alone and missing the cook of a lifetime by not using it. I'm going to see if I can return it and hope my father in law forgets he bought it for me!

It does a great job on multiple racks of ribs and also for moving a chicken or roast to a platter without having it balanced on two forks or a tongs that are too small. I would suggest that you might like it if you try it out, but your call.A poor widows son.

I used mine for a ham once and I draped a brisket over it that was too long for the egg.

It's ok for certain things but it's a terrible rib rack in my opinion.
