So the wife and kid are in Myrtle Beach with the outlaws this weekend, and I've been given the green light on my deck...finally. It'll be 16x20 with a pergola over it with that smoked coragated plastic over that. We (the blind and deaf 14 year old dog) break ground at dawn. Tonight we drank yuengling light and margaritas and watched the egg do a hung (organic) chicken. Happy weekend yall.

Im building a pergola , too. Not doing the plastic. Ive got the concrete poured and posts set. Heres my spot and picture Im modeling from.

My last house had a 16x20 deck. The inside was only 950 sqft, thus the new house.
My wife came home and caught me cutting a hole in the wall for a French door. "Do you know what you're doing?" Great memory.

Great pergola @Biggreenpharmacist ! That's what I'm going after, just a bit bigger. I'd do it in pavers or concrete but we hope to be outta this house in <2 yrs and I'm trying to maximize my profit/equity.Slumming it in Aiken, SC.

I planted my ass here so mines in concrete. Ive got about 20 fruit trees and my drug store is five minutes away. Im an hour and a half from my deer lease and my farm. If this storm dont take me out I hope to stay here forever.

(Botch here): Anxious to see/hear more about this, I haven't heard of it before but it sounds like a perfect solution. I put in a vinyl/steel pergola two years ago, but the "half" shade it provides is only good in limited circumstances, and does nothing for rain protection. A smoked plastic would be perfect.

I don't know @Jeremiah, do you have the skills to do this? I mean, after seeing the camper you built from scratch I'm not sure you can handle this??? Just be careful, those circular saws spin fast and can hurt you. Hold the hammer by the long end and hit the flat side of the nail and you should be fine.
LOL...I'm so kidding. I'm sure it'll be top notch, good luck. Wish I was closer, I love building stuff like this.

We have a pergola over part of our deck, I really, really wish I had covered it, we just don't get the shade we need and zero rain coverage. It's on our list to cover with some corrugated metal and mount a fan...someday.
