Looft Lighter

Has this happened to anyone else? I got a loft lighter for Xmas but I've found myself going back to the parifin cubes. Maybe I'm just lazy but they seem easier to me. I don't hate the looft lighter.... I just don't think it really solves any problem for me.

I loved mine while I had it, i did find that it lit the lump quicker than starter cubes.
That being said, mine did die on me after a couple years - replaced with a MAPP torch, and will not be going back.[Insert clever signature line here] -
I almost pulled the trigger on a Looft but then the thought of using an extension cord vs light my Mapp tourch.....then I read where some others had their Looft stop working. That's when I did away with the idea. Yea, it doesn't surprise me you meant back to your old reliable method at all. I think I would have been in the same boat had I purchased one. Still, cool product and hats off to company that invented it.Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

I've been using one at home for almost a year. I like it.

Like I said I could just be lazy. Having to run an extension cord every time just seems to do me in.1 large BGE, Spartanburg SC

I like mine, and my egg is within range of a plug, but the tip is destroyed from putting it on hot coals.

@Grillin_beers - I don't see it as lazy. I thought about a Looft, but I'm fine with the the paraffin lighters. It gives me time to enjoy another libation while the lump starts.South Jersey Pine Barrens. XL BGE , Assassin 24, Weber Kettle, CharBroil gasser, AMNPS

I did the same thing after I got mine. Then I use the Looflighter again and have not used a starter square sense. I think I can get the egg started and to temp faster than waiting for the square to start the lump,Johns Creek, GA Large BGE Weber Kettle Weber Genesis

It works better than I anticipated, but it's not for everyone. There are many options for lighting. It's nice you could find one that fits your needs and lifestyle. Carry on.

I've used starter cubes, paper towels soaked in vegetable oil, and the electric starter. I was close to buying a Looft Lighter but got a MAPP torch instead. Glad I did!

I love my looftlighter. I start it at 4 corners and aim towards the center each time. I then light the center too. My the time I'm done the coals are roaring and ready to go. I find the egg stabilizes much faster.
The second benefit is when you use it for a reverse sear. I set the steaks aside and get the coals jet engine hot in about 30-45 seconds.Pittsburgh, PA - 1 LBGE -

I used the BGE electric starter for a couple years. Got the Looflighter on sale because some people seemed to love it so much. The Looflighter kicks too many sparks out on my wood deck for my taste. I'm back to a BGE electric, Looflighter just sits around now. I don't notice any difference in start up time the way I use them.Large BGE, Mini BGEMorgantown, PA
