When SWMBO and I bought this house 12 years ago we said the backyard was perfect for a screened porch and an outdoor kitchen. That was at the top of our list. Then life happened. So after 12 years, 4 job changes between us, 2 kids, multiple deaths in the extended family, illness, operations, one major car accident, one complete septic system replacement, one eggfest, 2 eggs, and years of design and re design, we finally got most of the plants in and the straw down. The deck and porch were completed in July of 2014 when it is to hot to plant anything. This week we put in many native, sun loving, drought tolerant, low maintenance, fragrant plants and one specimen tree. Tonight was the pine straw. Tomorrow I install the herb planters I built, relax and enjoy the fruits of our labor for a while.
Sorry for gushing. Just glad to still be around to finally see it happen.

Love it. Hopefully this summer sees me put in screened in porch where the deck currently is and a patio for a future kitchen. Kitchen likely next year. Landscaping is a work in process front and back. Been here 13 yrs....

That looks great. We just finished a renovation and moved in, though we are still waiting on the landscaping.
Sure does feel good, though, doesn't it?

Beautiful chill spot, enjoy.
Know the feeling, was daydreaming yesterday doing some landscaping in the backyard. Then reality set in when I looked at my large cracked patio slab that needs to be cut and removed. I'm at 11 yrs, 1 kid, divorce, 5 job changes, death of mother from cancer, several eggfests, and a major surgery......someday.BrandonQuad Cities

Looks great! The best part is when you can put up your feet, have a beverage and a good cigar (if that is one of your vices). Looks to me like it is time! Enjoy!XLBGE, Small BGE, Homebrew and GuitarsRochester, NY

Looks really good. Did you do it yourself? I sure wish I could build things.....or at least pay someone to build things for me. Really, a great looking backyard. Thanks so much everyone for all the extremely kind comments. While I consider myself handy I don't build additions or do major renovations. I will do all the upkeep and repairs, but I don't trust myself with the major builds. I did some of the finish work on this project, but we've worked with the same great contractor for years now. We did design the porch/deck and did all the landscape design and installation. We've enjoyed it for nearly a year now but it never felt "finished". Now it almost does and we love it even more.
Anyway, thanks again. Go Hawks!
