Scenario:
Family in from out of town. Jerk prep for three days. Timeline for sides -check. To temp - check. Platesetter, smoke - check.
Chicken on the egg for a low and slow in minutes.
Back spasms - check
The dome? Landed on fresh pine straw mulch and is one piece. I think the band is shot, however,
Managed to lug the dome up the steps and place it on the egg for the cook!
The good news? My rutland arrived today.
Pics to dealer - check?

Man you are lucky. Go play the lottery tonight. When did you last check
the band bolts? -
-
Right now my lid is opening a little more difficult than normal. Maybe I had better check for a closer look to see if anything is wrong. Did you notice anything different before this happened? Just curious.
-
Lucky bastard. My dome did the same thing about 3 feet into grass and busted into 6 or 7 pieces
-
I wouldn't have been that lucky. It would've been one of those epic falls that was in complete slow motion and the landing would be horrific with no way to put Humpty Dumpty's hat back on again. Not too sure on the ?pics to dealer? though.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL

Wow. I'm sure glad your dome survived. So you just have the dome resting loosely on the gasket for the cook?

@Zuma
No. I knew my Rutland was arriving and this was my last cook before going into full maintenance mode. I had already ripped (what I could) the bottom gasket off.
I've tightened bolts recently trying to deal with an overbite.New Albany, Ohio -
Just glad it's a large. if an XL would have had to bribe the next door teenagers to place and remove the dome post cook! Human hinges.

But how's the FORK?
i have had my large for over five years. I finally checked my band bolts for the first time a couple of months ago. And they were as tight as when I first assembled my egg. Hard to tell from your pic on my phone, but it looks like your bottom band bolt is perfectly straight. Mine are quite bent.
Glad you lucked out!!I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Five years ago, when we bought our Large Egg, the dealer just stated they would assemble it and deliver it, no mention of us doing that at home. I have checked the bands a couple of times and never had any need for adjustment.

Sorry to hear about that but glad the dome seems to have survived.
Is that real pimento wood on the grill for your jerk?
