Preparing my first butt. Gonna put it on in the morning and let it go low and low all day. Fingers crossed!

8lbs butt Plan to go at 300 for about 7 hours

You may want to either bump up to 350, or plan on longer than 7 hours, and maybe both. Either way, cook to internal temp (200-210), not time. Once it hits 160, you can wrap in foil to help push through the stall. Better to finish early and FTC than to have everyone drooling over the great smell, and not be ready to eat for hours.

I've done 2 nine pounders in 6 to 6
5 cooking at 300 to 350, but I agree with @Tjcoley that if you are pressed for time you can wrap it at 160 or if when it gets to 185 you can crank it up to around 400 To finish.
