Wicked Good weekend warrior

Hey all,
I saw some WG weekend warrior at my local Ace and decided to give it a try. I had to open a new bag anyway so why not right. It was by far the most difficult lump to get started in my chimney. I finally had to pull out the propane torch. Once started it's been great. Up to temp quick and banged out a pizza in no time. My question is did I miss something? Or is WG just harder to lite? I did notice it's "a product of Paraguay " but it seemed to have the largest chunks of any lump I've purchased and looked to be very well carbonized. Thoughts..

I've used several bags of WGWW in the past and loved it on low and slows. Never had a problem with it at all.
It's not available at my local Ace, so I started ordering Rockwood and Ozark Oak from Firecraft.

Wicked good is really good for low and slow. It does take a bit more energy to light but it lasts very long and the big chunk allow a lot of airflow to help give a reliable steady fire.

Its very good lump and is hard to start but burns very long. @MadcapMagician‌ are you aware that BGE are made in Mexico?

WGWW is a great lump! I use it all the time and really like it.

I swore by it for 9 months and never had a bad cook or misfire. I've branched out since, to Rockwood, Ozark Oak, and others that people here have recommended. Still, it's my go-to if I've got it handy. My local Ace sells it, as do the good folks at Dizzy Pig just down the road in Manassas...

I use it frequently, one of my top 3 that I use consistently. Its great. Good for high heat as well as low/slows.

Agreed tough to light but a very good lump. Neutral smoke and last a long time.

It seems denser and it was my go to before RW became readily attainable locally. I wouldn't hesitate to use WGWW or competition blend again (good stuff IMHO).

I appreciate the input fellas. I'm almost inclined to set the WW aside and use it for long smokes and keep using RW for my day to day cooks.

WG is good stuff. As far as I know their competition blend no longer exists...at least they stopped making it about 2 years ago. Anyway, we found it hard to light but once it got going its was good for any type cook. I highly recommend either RW or WG.

their comp blend years ago was twice as difficult to light but 40 hour cooks were possible with it. they have a new lump that sounds more similar to the old comp blend. no problems lighting it here, i use a 500,000 btu weedburner for lighting

Wow, I was amazed at how much lump was left over from my last cook (first cook with wicked Good WW). I'm really blown away, I didn't fill the fire box completely last cook and for my wing cook tonight all I had to do was add the lump from my starter chimney and no more. WG has impressed me fo sho

WGWW went through a spell where their quality really dipped, my ACE stopped carrying it. I know use KJJ lump which is A LOT better than BGE lump, or RO in a pinch.

Basically, a lot of guys here used to use WGWW, but when quality dipped they went to other lump brands. One of WGWW even went off on someone here, lol.

I've heard that KJ is WG. All the branded stuff comes from existing suppliers. Not sure though.

I liked it when I could get it. Then the quality sucked. Bags were always torn up by the time I was able to buy them, the bags were full of dust and small parts you couldn't use. Had nail and other things in the bags. But anyways, yes it's denser wood, takes a little longer to light, but burns nice for low and slow cooks. I haven't noticed much drop off or ash once I switched to Rockwood , FWIW.

I was one of them. Really liked the WG product better than RO/BGE and then it went downhill. I then tried Rockwood and I love how neutral it is, so I never went back.

Wicked Good came out with a new blend mid-2014. It is called WG Jake's Blend. It is their most dense yet. Burns forever and the bags are much better too. If you don't mind a tougher light, give it a try.

I got some a few months ago at the Ace on Scott...or maybe it was the Toco Hills Ace. One of those.
