Doing my first tri-tip for the Super Bowl. It's 2.5 lbs. I know you cook to temp, but I'm trying to time it so we can eat at kickoff. Indirect at 250, then sear. If I'm shooting for mid rare, how long are we talking about?

Guy Fieri's version of the Santa Maria tri-tip is the best I have found. You will find it on you tube.Maumelle, Arkansas

If it's room temp-ish when you put it on, that's like a 20-30 min cook I think.

I would guess about 1:15-1:30 total cook time. You can always let it rest for a while in between the roast and the sear if it cooks faster than expected, then it can also rest a while after the sear.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

I would plan for an hour and a half and then you can always bump up the temperature to bang homeColumbia, SC --- LBGE 2011 -- MINI BGE 2013

I cook at 375. Takes about 30 to 40 minutes, then sear.
