Rookie mistake

Getting ready to do some pizza, with the dough made using New York City tap water my son cave me for Christmas.  Lit the Egg early to heat the stone and walked away.  After 20 minutes it was at 500, and I closed the vent just a bit and went in for a Tito's.  Now, 20 minutes later I went out to check and temp was 200 degrees on dome thermo.  First thought was my fire went out, but as I approached the Egg I could feel the heat.  I had wrapped the thermo all the way around and had quite the inferno going.  Now to bring it back down a bit.  At least it is pre warmed.

Titos has a habit of involving itself in such tomfoolery.

    How to solve the problem?

    Take a Titos with you.

Pizza turned out pretty darn good.  I used Bobby Flay's pizza dough recipe for the first time.  Didn't get it quite as thin as I wanted, but it had a great chew, crisp bottom and great flavor.  Mix of 80% Mozza and 20% Wisconsin White Cheddar gave great flavor.

As a new person to the BGE this is one of my biggest fears.

On the other hand one of my biggest treats is a shot of Tito vodka.

My son had a few stores in the Disney area and he sold the crap out of Tito vodka by posting a sign that said "the best vodka you have never heard of...endorsed by my Dad." The rep gave him this sign to give me for the Garagebar. Sorry to derail the thread but the mention of Tito does that to me. :)

I'd eat it and then give two thumbs up :-bd

@Tjcoley‌, what was the actual cooking temp you settled on?

I was able to get it down to about 600-625, assuming the dome thermo was still accurate. Turned out to be a good temp. Second pie went on at 575.

If you have to wear one of these suits to cook a pizza, your egg might be too hot. Warning...Pizza may burn.

Good thang there's a warranty.  That temp exposes casting flaws in the ceramic.

I didn't think high-speed NASA ceramic had flaws. Are you saying the BGE can't handle the heat of a space shuttle?

3000 F is the temp of shuttle tiles on re-entry.  Yes, but I hope you know those are different ceramics, and a big green shuttle would look cool.
