Do you store your rubs inside or out?

I have amassed a decent sized collection of rub. Mrs. K is complaining about how much space it is taking up in the kitchen. I am having a storage table and egg table built so in a few weeks I will have room to store it outside in my cabinet.

I am not opposed to storing it outside, but I just don't want to mess it up. I don't know if it is even possible to mess it up. I live in Georgia so it doesn't get that cold here, but it does get hot and very, very humid.

Do any of you keep your rubs outside? I am looking for advice here.

Keep it inside. You want them as dark and cool as possible. I was in the same boat so I built a spice rack to hang on the inside of my pantry door.

I store my spices inside to keep them dry and prevent clumping. I mix my own rubs so my rub sprinkle container is usually empty except when i am using it.

Inside My wife is going through the cupboards right now and getting a Goodwill donation of dishes and such that hasn't been used in years. She's making room for the spices and rubs that seem to grow and multiply endlessly.

Get a mini fridge. One that will fit in your new outdoor cabinet. Then turn it to the lowest (warmest) setting. Cool, dark and low humidity. :-??

Waitaminit - that sounds like my house!! High heat and humidity in the summer here too, so I store them inside. Will be building a spice rack for the pantry. not sure when, but that's the plan.

@Biggreenpharmacist I did try it. I didn't really care for it. It tastes good when I taste it in a spoon, but I didn't care for it on chicken.

Yes, kinda what I thought. It did ok on some ribs but I had also used plowboys on it. That plowboys yardbird is my favorite all around rub.

In side and the idea of a shaker, wether you mix your own or buy pre-mix is a great idea. You can measure what to use rather than eyeball it and depending on when you apply, you do not subject the whole jar to cooking steam or heat. Since using a shaker that I fill just before I need it, the stored jars don't clump nearly as much.

We have his and hers spice cabinets, not unlike the closet, I'm starting to find hers in mine. I outgrew the one over the range hood and now she can reach it. :-w

Interesting spice story----

When I had my divorce and had to evict my ex wife out of my house, the place was basically trashed. When it came time to clean the kitchen, I noted tons of smelly stuff in the sink. She had taken all of my dizzy dust, etc and dumped them in the sink and poured water all over them!!

If you have space then YES! BTW when I have purchased spices in bulk for home made recipes I always place the excess in Food Saver Bags after measuring so I know the quantity and then freeze them. HTH
