How long does it take for a Looftlighter to warm up. I just bought one and they don't say anything about warming it up before you try to light your lump wood

I think your mileage may vary. When I first start mine (using Rockwood lump) it can take 1-2 minutes to get going. The second and third spot light much faster. Maybe it does need to warm up?LBGE, Marietta, GA

Mine takes awhile to get warmed up. At least a minute or 2 before I start to see some sparks from the charcoal. Once warmed up, it works really well.XL BGE

Yep. a minute or two on the first spot and less than a minute after that.

I think it is the charcoal that has to be heated, not the Looftlighter.

It takes longer when it is really cold. Some lump takes longer too. I am using Fogo right now and it takes longer.Just push the Looflighter right into the charcoal and blast away until it starts to flame and then gradually back off so you don't melt the end of it. By trial and error you can decide how much coal to light at the beginning.

I think reused lump lights faster, at least that's been my experience!Charlotte, Michigan XL BGE

Tip from Tom, don't put it in the lump and walk off from it... Mine got too hot and melted the aluminum housing..
