Lurk away brother. I lurked here a long time myself before jumping in. For the record, participating is far more enjoyable than lurking so jump on in and enjoy the ride. Welcome aboard.

Sell your gasser, sell your weber kettle, sell your propane tanks, sell your stash of charcoal briquets. You won't need them any more! If it's going to take too long to save up. Find out where @badinfluence lives and go steal one. He has so many he probably won't notice one missing! Only kidding, I would never advocate breaking the law unless I did not have a BGE.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes guys! @freddyj‌ I am interestered in the large because from all that I have read it seems to be the most versatile. The XL seems good too, but I think it maybe a bit overkill for my small family. @jhl192‌ lol

Only bad news is the bge itself is only the starting point- I would factor in an adjustable rig and some kind of instant read thermometer. The rest you can decide to add as appropriate.

You will love the bge- I'm convinced it makes you a better cook. You get more involved in the process and people on here will stimulate/expand your knowledge base-

    Good luck and keep lurking

Buham if I could be of any help I've had my egg for almost a year now and I literally use it every day it was tough to put down close to 1,200 dollars cash but I'll tell you want I look back now and it was the best $1,200 dollars I have ever spent. Now like I said I've had it for almost a year now and I'm probably a good $3,000-$4,000 dollars in when you figure plate setter, bags of charcoal, starters I don't even want to figure in meat I have gone to buy just to try out a recipe I found on the forum, but it is all worth it your family will love it and you will want to cook stuff just to try it and show it off to someone who isn't familar with BGE and the distinct taste it has. If I can give you any advice I'd say do whatever you gotta do to get one sooner than later and size does matter I got a large, father has 2 larges and he told me to get an XL from the beginning and I thought it was gonna be too much but now looking back all the cooks I've done I wish I would of gone ahead and got a XL. Good luck and welcome to the group it is definitely a way of life.

No need to just lurk, you can still post food porn you pull out of your oven or off your stove top.

Just know that if it looks real tasty, some of us occasionally have to wipe the drool off our keyboards.  Some may even need to clean the lick marks off the monitor. ;)

If you're saving up here are some other ways to scrounge some cash, all tried and tested :)

    1. Negotiate your electricity rate if you have multiple providers in your area.

    2. Call your cable company/internet provider and negotiate. Bundling services together will usually save you money. Or cut the cord altogether and get Roku or Chromecast.

    3. Appeal your property tax assessment every year.

    4. Ask your family to not give you any gifts for Father's Day, anniversaries, birthday, xmas, whatever. Ask them to contribute to your BGE fund. Every little bit helps.

And before you know it, you have more than you need to get your FIRST egg.

Without knowing what kind of family you have or lifestyle you lead I will give you this.  If you eat out more then 3 times a week fast food included, stop. If you enjoy good food with minimal effort continue. If you enjoy even better food with a decent amount of effort continue further.

Many don't realize how much money they spend on take out food until it is presented to them. If you have one hour a couple of times a week to cook and 3-4 hours on weekends both your diet and your enjoyment of meals will improve. The Egg is just a vehicle for a larger enjoyment of meals. Some of us take it further then others, but as long as you don't mind messing around with a little charcoal I nearly guarantee it will be a worthwhile investment.

@Buham-welcome aboard and enjoy the journey.  And an eggcellent comment above about looking for an eggfest to purchase a demo BGE.  Will save you $100's-The BGE get used once at the fest and then it's yours assembled and with the warranty.
And post away with any questions you may have.  Odds are you will get different answers and with the BGE all will work.  Very versatile.

Welcome Buham, just fall right in line here, share ideas, comments, and recipes as you wish. But most of all you will learn a lot and meet some great people. If you have a question about anything someone will be along to answer (might not be the right answer but an answer). Welcome aboard and good luck Egg hunting.

Welcome, I live South of you in Floyd County. I wanted one for several years and finally I had the money so I got myself a Christmas gift this year. I love it and wish I hadn't waited so long to get it. By all means do what it takes to get one, you'll never regret it!

Once you make your egg purchase take some time and see what you need for accessories. It's easy to spend others money here. Take a few months and learn the egg and time will tell you what you do/don't need. It's easy to drop hundreds upon hundreds after the excitement of the new egg purchase. It's still fun buying accessories year's later but you start to understand if the accessory is going to be a game changer or something that's going to sit on shelf that gets used once or twice
