XL versus Large Green Egg

I have an XL green egg and a large green egg. I use a DigiQDX which I use with both. I get perfectly predictable results with the large and problems with the XL. I like to slow cook pork butts at 200 for 20 hours which means the meat falls off. No problems holding 200 for upto 30 hours with large but with XL seems to stop holding after 12 to 14 hours. What am I doing wrong. I use the place setter with a drip pan for both.

I've gone over 20 hours with my XL at 250 with no controller. I'm not sure what you could be doing wrong.2-XLs ,MM,blackstone,Ooni koda 16,R&V works 8.5 gallon fryer,express smoker and 40" smoking cajun

I may be trying to keep at 200 which just will not work on the xl but works fine on the large

32 hrs holding 275 on my XL is my record. No controller.Be careful, man! I've got a beverage here.

What do you mean stop holding? Do you have charcoal remaining and the fire goes out? Have you pulled the fire box out and completely clear the ash before a long cook?I have had my XL going under 300* for about 18+ hours with coal remaining. I think air flow is your culprit. I would suggest that you bump the temp a little but you are running a pit controller so it shouldn't matter.XL BGEJoe JRBaltimore, MD

Make sure you're getting good air flow. Your firebox also needs to be lined up straight with the lower vent. Sometimes your firebox can get shifted and restrict air flow"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

I've only been able to hold my XL as low as 225. Lower than that at the Fire goes out. My record is 24 hours at 250. Still had lump left but the food was done.Mark Annville, PA

Thanks. I'll check the firebox. I clean the egg after each use. Again. I've never had the problem with the large.
