Alcohol / Cotton Balls ??

Options
Hey folks,  has anyone tried the lighting method of using jumbo cotton balls soaked in 91% alcohol, for lighting??

I have been using the alcohol, but I did not know about using cotton balls.  Sounds very promising to me.

The website where I found this suggested leaving the jumbo cotton balls in a jar of 91% alcohol near/ available for lighting your lump. Just fish out a couple and place where you want in the lump, then wait a few minutes and light.

This has got my attention. I'd like to hear any feedback from my mentors here though !!!!!!!   I trust you folks more than any other website.

Thanks,

Donnie

And thanks again CAZZY for heading up the Elfster event....it is awesome !!!!

Sorry, guys, and gals, I should have searched before posting. Looks like its an old trick.

Would still like recent feedback though on your thoughts.

Someone had posted where they use some vaseline to gel the alcohol ???  I may try that technique as well.

    Thanks,

I used to use alcohol, but no cotton ball. I am sure it would work just fine.

Give it a try and let us know!

I like the chimney filled with old lump from when I clean out my egg, I keep a bucket of it.
I like how quick the egg gets going this way rather that lighting in spots,

I don't know, which is more expensive rubbing alcohol, or denatured alcohol.

I love alcohol. I find cotton balls a bit binding though.

Hell no. Swallow a few cotton balls and you'll skip that pesky endoscopic visit. ..unless you like that sort of thing.

Thanks HENAPPLE for getting the ball rolling. I knew I could learn a lot about cotton balls if I just asked.

Dad always used 70% Isopropyl to start the briquettes, of course he was in the Medical Corp and brought it home in gallon jugs. He would soak the bottom layer in the chimney and then dump dry ones on top. Much better than newspaper, no fly ash. Did a great job, no cotton balls required - never tried it with lump.
