Rockwood Lump

I finally found a dealer that sold Rockwood Lump within a 50 mi radius of my house.  I went last week to pick up two bags but was not able to try it out until this past weekend.  So far a I really like it.  I've only smoked a ham and grilled some burgers but I can tell a difference between the Rockwood and the GFS Lump I usually use.  If you have not tried Rockwood I highly recommend trying it out.  The dealer I bought my from sold it for $20 per 20LB bag + tax.

I recently tried Rockwood, liked it. Less smokey than Royal Oak. Next up is a bag of Ozark Oak.
Richmond and Mathews County, VA. Large BGE, Weber gas, little Weber charcoal. Vintage ManGrates. Little reddish portable kamado that shall remain nameless here.  Very Extremely Stable Genius.

It's good stuff. I've been using it almost exclusively since Wicked Good disappeared from the area and Ace Hardwares in Georgia started carrying Rockwood. Also, recently talked with one of the guys at Rockwood (Jonathan, I think) about a bag I bought. Very nice guys with wonderful customer service, too. It's great to be able to support a small business with a superior product and top notch customer service.

It is clear that it is a high quality charcoal (easy to light, pops and cracks, gets up to temp) but after using it a while I have to say I like RO/BGE better.  I like the smell of it when it is cooking and it adds more flavor to the meat.   I know, I know...with RO you add the wood you want and not the wood you don't...

The amazing thing is how clean your egg is when you cook with it!  it's crazy.  Every other cook leaves my egg black (not that there is anything wrong with that) and even a 500 degree cook with RO will leave the entire egg white.  So I do like it for pizza cooks.

They shouldn't be......they had a truckload leave here last week. I'll check it out. Maybe theyre being cautious with the 3 weeks.

@stlcharcoal thanks for looking into it, it was just an employee reciting what he had been told I am sure. I went ahead and hit up firecraft this morning for 100 pounds. Love your charcoal.

I won't use anything but Rockwood since I got introduced to it. It performs well in every aspect of my range of cooking.

@JRWhitee you are correct. A little more than a bag free when you add tax and it comes to me rather than me to it. A deal no doubt.

Yep, that's the norm.  I just try to keep on top of it for PR reasons--because sometimes they try to blame us for it.  It doesn't take long for it to get back to us, and then I'll call and have a talk with their district people or store managers on where the finger should have been pointed.

I'm showing they have 1700 bags in stock in Gainesville--so some of that truckload has already left their warehouse going to the stores.  Per the report, there's about a dozen stores that have had their orders fulfilled........so check back in a day or two and they'll probably have it in stock.

Here are some pictures of my truck @henapple & @johnkitchens.  It is a 84 Chevy PU, 9" lift, 383 Stroker for a motor.  I bought it when I was 16 and my Dad and I did a complete frame up restoration on it.  It took us about three years to complete.  All body parts are from Georgia, the only thing that is on the truck now that was on the old truck is the frame.

Thanks @johnkitchens, she will be 6 months old on Friday.
