@bud812 It appears that he is sterilizing the tongs from the heat of the egg.I always just use two pair of tongs for all of my cooks. At about the halfway point or so I switch over to the clean ones.
So far I haven't killed anyone.

More often than not, I use the same tongs for the duration. Been doing it since the 70s. No issues.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Single tongs for years here. I typically use my hands to place on the dirty bird on the grate. Don't use tongs until flip time.
