Clean burn

I did my first clean burn last night. Is 800* hot enough for a clean burn? Seems to have whitened things up on the inside...

plenty hot. let it go an hour or so at that temp and you should be 'clean'

Check for cracks in your egg. I've been scared to do clean burns because of that. Would be interested if you find anything.

Don't go above 800. I've replaced two fire rings. One burn wrapped the temp back around to 200. That's too hot.

Wow. I'm not sure i would go that high myself. I would think that 1 hour at around 400-500 degrees would be more sufficient.

Remove your dome thermometer .. it might get ruined at high temps.

Sounds like you got the results you wanted on your clean burn. If it's clean enough it worked. If not go longer next time.

I also pull my temp gauge. all the ceramics have a life time warrantee, temp gauge does not.

Zarcon 400-500 for an hour might clean up a clean Egg but it's not enough for a real clean burn of a well used Egg.

800 degrees is a great temp to clean burn.

Yeah, it needed a good cleaning, Huge difference in the interior and all thrown in accessories. I'll remove the thermo. next time, didn't think about it. @ Terrebandit no crack in bottom of egg or damage to fire ring everything is nice and white, almost like new again. Clean, Clean, Clean...
