Past or Present Culinary Heroes. Who's Yours?

I have been grilling since I was a kid.  My folks had a gasser and when my Mom wanted something grilled, I was the guy.  I only cooked standard backyard stuff, but it was usually edible.  I became interested in cooking more than backyard fare in college watching this weird guy on PBS.  That guy was the Frugal Gourmet.  I still have his cookbooks.

The old cookbook thread reminded me of them and my old culinary hero.  I wouldn't say he was the greatest chef because I've cooked a recipe or two from those books that I think were clinkers.  But my interest was sparked and for me, that's enough to call him my culinary hero.
