Just like my eggs themselves I will also always have a Food Saver! BTW what model was it? $89 sounds low end, but maybe a good deal on one that typically retails for $119.

Can't remember what we paid for our Foodsaver. But I can tell you it's a must have appliance in our kitchen. We use it almost everyday.
    I recommend.

true, but what you will soon learn is the FS brand bags and material are expensive and you might end up spending dollars to save pennies of food! There are other brands of bags but as the old saying goes they ought to give you the sealer as their money is made on the bags!

Wise words here. I've been thinking lately that the short time my leftover pulled pork stays in the freezer, I need to skip vacuum sealing it and just use zip lock freezer bags.

The real saving is cheese at our house. A 2# loaf of mozza makes 4 pizzas, cut the loaf into 4 pieces, plastic wrap three, then into one 8" food saver bag. When needed, open the bag, take out one chunk of cheese and then reseal. Lasts for 6 weeks at our place.
Like @DMW said - for leftovers zip locks work as we try to eat them up within a couple of weeks.
Love the foodsaver -great for spices and herbs.....

My wife purchased a V4860 for my birthday from Amazon. Looking forward to using it! Where do you get your freezer bag refills?

A foodsaver triples the amount of time you can freeze something.  Depends on what it is, but I couldn't live without mine.

I buy the 8" rolls whenever we get the 30% off coupons at Kohls. Otherwise I have literally purchased hundreds and hundreds of preformed bags from The Sweet Attack. I will try to post a link, but lately any time I post a link this forum won't let me do it so let me see if I can outsmart it

  • Love my foodsaver, the ball glass Jar sealer is the best, potatoe chips last a couple of months if I don't eat them right away

My Foodsaver is essential for saving meat, home-picked fruit (e.g., persimmons), spaghetti sauce from home grown tomatoes, etc.  I have the vertical V3880, but if I were to buy one today I would get the Gamesaver.  You can save money by buying Weston bags.  They work fine in the Foodsaver.

My Foodsavor earns it's keep every year with mangoes. I have two mango trees in the yard. They produce a lot of great fruit in a short period of time. Far more than we can use fresh. Frozen in vac bags it will keep great until next year's crop arrives.

I found mine new on Craigslist for $5 or something around that price. It's a lower end version but seals without issues. Might be worth a look on Craigslist if not sure how much you would use it

I have a FS 2200 series and we use the crap out of it. I don't know if it's a low end model or what but we haven't been able to kill it. Fresh fruit, veggies, sauces, meat, you name it that thing is a beast. I even have my motorcycle registration and insurance cards sealed up and taped under my seat on my Ultra...

I bought a Food Saver V3240 on Amazon about a month ago for $86. It usually sells for $139. I like it so far. Better than zip locks.
