Just heard of this place. It's a BBQ place about a hour from my house. And yes I will drive a hour for good food. Brisket sandwich 7 bucks! Craziness. I know I know. Food cost are at a all time high. but damn.

Just checked local place that just opened.. $13 for brisket sandwich and $15 brisket with hot links sandwich.

Good BBQ is expensive. A cook for the four of us here can run me $60 dollars. Myself, I'll pay good money for really good bbq. These prices shown here seem cheap.I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca.

@texaswig being in the biz I'll tell you A»»» product prices are high for restaurants, then their $hi+ breaks ie refrigeration/cooking. Funny P&L rules! If no P and there's a huge L then it ain't gonna be pretty. Welcome to the commercial restaurant industry.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL

Franklin can afford to charge a little less than your local place. He KNOWS he's going to sell out everyday, your local spot has to account that there may be some food that they have cooked that they may need to toss. That food loss has an impact that Franklin doesn't have to consider.texaswig said:For a no name place. Yes its high. Franklin in Austin. A lot of people say it the best on the planet. That wouldn't be considered expensive in Durham, but if it is in your neighborhood... then it just won't survive unless it's really really good."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

As a backyard Egger I can kick most any BBQ joint's butt in So. Florida and I have some idea what it costs and what goes into making good BBQ, on a small scale. So I can appreciate a place that puts out decent or better BBQ at a competitive cost. The real problem, IF this is a problem, are the lesser tier BBQ joints that put out really crappy stuff for the same prices. There are some local and national chains that are shameful and they survive ahead of places that are putting out the real deal.
-
Not high for where I live. In fact, lower than most. 1 place that has a good brisket sandwich charges 8.50. Another, 9.00. While there's some money in the area, mostly its a low rent district. One of the classier places charges $10 for their brisket sandwich, and $9 for their pulled pork. You can get liquor there, tho'.

I'm confused. The restaurant is in Texas but is called Southern BBQ. Is it a chain based somewhere in the South?XL,L,SWinston-Salem, NC

I just noticed that you can order a single rib. Isn't that a Chris Rock routine?"I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

@JohnInCarolina Lexington is a pretty neat little place actually. Great place that have some of the best wings I know is Christo's, their downtown is striving and there are some good joints to eat down there. Southern Lunch is a staple in the area as well. However, to your point there are many BBQ joints though.------------------------------

Hell some places in Atlanta run $10-$12 for a sandwich.problem is BBQ is becoming/already popular with the hipster-foodie crowd.once this niche defines something as good...price can go up. (as demand typcially increases from hipster word of mouth).BBQ has the farm to table, handcrafted, mom-pop allure that fuels the foodie fires of all hipster urbanites.Atlanta, GALarge Egg ~1998 model

$8.50 for a 1-meat sandwich at my local place. $1 more for a 2-meat sandwich. If I go to the Texas-style place in DC(based in NYC), they want 11.50 for a chopped brisket sandwich. All other meat is by the lb and they are VERY proud of it, price-wise.

There's a BBQ truck that has been in my neighborhood lately. It's decent BBQ when you hit it right and the meat isn't dried out. They charge $25 for a rack of ribs...just ribs, no sides. The ribs are very good...well, all the center bones are awesome. 2-3 bones in on each end are dry. So, you're really paying $25 for a half rack of ribs, and some jerky. :-?LBGE/Maryland

Record prices for meat, increased demand = higher prices. Which makes mediocre BBQ so maddening, it isn't cheap anymore. That Thrillist article is interesting and worth a read if you have the time.Firing up the BGE in Covington, GA

Whoopss... Errant post. Guess that was a special that day. Anyways, Lexington BBQ # 2 (aka Honey Monk), $3.90 for a chopped sandwich.
For $9 and some change, you get a chopped plate! BBQ, fries, slaw, hushpuppies/rolls.
