MiddleEastern Lamb Pies

Living in Dearborn which has the largest MiddleEastern population outside the Middle East I figured I'd give their open faced lamb pies a shot on the BGE. First try came out perfect. Found a new spice I like a lot better than their 7 spice as well. Penzey's Turkish Spice. Makes the best Kefta as well. It truly is magic in a jar if you guy's get a chance to try it.

Looks and sounds awesome..Any chance you could post a pic of that Turkish spice you talk about ..It sounds like something I would like to look for.Greensboro North Carolina

Penzey's is an independent spice store. They are online if you don't have one locally. I also use their Turkish Aleppo Pepper in place of crushed red pepper in most of my dishes that call for crushed red pepper. I've been using that for years but just bought the Turkish Spice a few weeks back.Dearborn MI

Looks like a recipe is due. I also like the Aleppo Pepper, nice and sweet. Have you ever used zaatar on lamb. Would bet their Turkish spice has some in it.

Penzey's Turkish Spice is good stuff.Southeast Florida - LBGE
In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’ Dare to think for yourself. -
Really would live a recipe.*******Owner of a large and a beloved mini in Philadelphia

I use Za'atar and Sumac all the time. You can take Za'atar and cheese on the flat breads and its a common breakfast food here in Dearborn in the MiddleEastern households and Bakeries.Dearborn MI

I like Aleppo because it is smokey and has a nice citrus hint to it as well that crushed red pepper doesn't have. Great on Pizza too.Dearborn MI

The greatest barrier against all wisdom, the stronghold against knowledge itself, is the single thought, in ones mind, that they already have it all figured out.
