First I would like to say how much I appreciate the wealth of knowledge on this forum. Purchased my LBGE last Wednesday, a "birthday gift" from my 6 year old son. First cook was 2 beer can yard birds (I know) and 2 spatchcocked birds. All rubbed with Dizzy Dust. Sorry no after pics, but all turned out very good. Thanks again for all the tips and info. I promise after pics from now on.

Great first cook. Welcome. What does your six year old do for a living to be able to afford an Egg? I have a 4 1/2 year old living with me, who loves 'Egg meat' Maybe I can get her started early. Be sure to get him involved in the Egg lifestyle.

Thanks everyone. I smoked the can birds indirect @ 220-230 to 165 internal and raised direct the spatchcocked at 350 to 165 internal. A hard choice, but I guess I would go with the can bird, had a little more smoke. I'm new to the raised direct spatchcock game, but I'll keep trying. I have much to learn. Yes sir that's my Yeti you see, a six hour smoke required a few icy cold brews.LBGE - Central Arkansas - Go Hogs! -

You're gonna be fun. As one who is an old hand at outdoor cooking but fairly new to the egg, I can tell you that you have fallen in with a great group of people. I learn something new every day. Good lookin bird meat.

Chickens look great.As you are using poultry roasters, try inverting the birds (stand them on their heads) Puts the dark meat higher in the hot dome, while keeping the breasts in the cooler close to the grid zone. (Little Steven taught me this)I usually spatchcock when cooking one or two birds, but go to the vertical to get three on.Nice cook!Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!
