I've found that it gets to temp faster but I don't think hotter.

It seems to burn hotter to me. My direct 400 settings has to be closed down even more to maintain it. Oh well!

I second the observation that Rockwood gets to temperature quicker than WGWW-but that said, WGWW has  more staying power over the long haul for me.  In plain English-as dense as Rockwood is, I find WGWW  more dense thus the extended time at temp.
WGWW= Wicked Good Weekend Warrior lump for the recent forum members.   FWIW-

Not trying to controversial. My bad if it came off that way.
. I burn nothing but RW and the occasional OO now. Been a while since trying WGWW.

I also find RW is a bit hotter.  I also find it light quickly on re-lighting and a less ash then WGWW.  I have made the switch to RW from WGWW.

Damn I almost really messed up there. I had RO instead of RW and had to edit. Hope I didn't loose any creds from @henapple although we all know is is a closet RO user!!!!

I wouldn't say our charcoal necessarily "burns hotter" than anyone else's........it's just consistently a higher carbon content.  This allows it to get to temperature faster and be more responsive to O2 changes.  Something that has a bunch of wood fiber in it, still burns from the outside in and cannot reach those high temps until the wood burns out of it.  Not sure if that makes sense.

The only downside (from a marketing aspect), is that because of the higher carbon content, the charcoal very brittle--it breaks down in to smaller chunks during bagging, palletizing, shipping, stocking, etc.  But it still burns the same as the big chunks, but we still field complaints.

I don't think it burns hotter, but does burn evenly...no hot spots on the small.  My only concern is RW sparks more than OOak and ROak.  RW is my preference for the mini and the small where sparking isn't a big concern.  OOak is used exclusively on the large where sparks are a big concern.
BTW I have had no problems with the smaller shipping caused chunks.  They burn/heat just like the big chunks.
Another plus for RW, DIL does not like a lot of smoke taste in her food and RW's clean burning characteristic was just the answer....No complaints now.

In my experience, Rockwood came up to temp faster, burned off the VOCs faster, and burned hotter than WGWW. Burn time was about the same.

I like Rockwood and agree with the pro posts above. If you want a relatively smokeless cook, it's good for that too.
