I'm gonna get a mandolin for slicing so please tell me which one you have and if you like it.

    Mine is a Bron Eurodib. 20 years old and still sharp enough to take the fingers off to the knuckles in a single pass.

    If you use the sliding guard and holder they are fine. I start onions and potatoes without it cause they tend to wobble if they are long. Just keep an eye on it or get a kevlar butcher's glove

    I've been meaning to buy a Kyocera ceramic one for quick slices, but the Bron is the only one really set up with multiple blades (French fries, etc.)

    I had a Kyocera that I used at Eggfest until I darn near took a knuckle off (it slipped on the table).  I have an Oxo for the house.  Whatever you get use the guard, VOE  :-O

    BTW, I've had one of those cheap Japanese Beriners for 18 years. It's as sharp as @Little Steven's wit. No mishaps so far.

    Inevitably in every cooking reality competition show, at least once a season someone slices the bejesus out their hand on one of those.  Maybe more cuts with knives, but the mandolins are put in the kitchen by sadistic producers looking for ratings.  It's like running with sissors.

    I like the pampered chef hand held one. It's the smaller of the 2 they offer. Best advice to avoid injury, toss the hand guard and get yourself a pair of kevlar gloves.

    Hell yeah, I have two of them.  They work great, I would recommend.  Don't use them very often but I'm not racing some other team with Gordon Ramsey screaming "hurry up, you donkeys!!!".
