Has anyone tried plank grilling on the EGG? If affirmative, what was cooked, what type of plank was used and how were the results?

Junior Fan,
[p]salmon on cedar planks. . .[p]submerge plank in water for 4 hours. . .get egg at 425 degrees dome temp....put plank directly on the grid for about 5 minutes till you hear it 'crackling'. ..lay the salmon on the plank (in this case, coated with olive oil and dizzy pig raging river rub). .. .cook for about 12 - 14 minutes.. . squirt some fresh lemon juice on it about halfway through. ..
delicious. ..and not as smokey as you might think .. ..

mad max beyond eggdome, My dad loves salmon so I got him some maple planks for Christmas. Any experience with maple planks before?[p]Aloha![p]Greg

-
guava wood,
Same as Max said, except... we used maple planks, and BGE Sweet Maple rub. Totally delectable![p]I wonder how a guava plank would work.[p]Ken

jake42,[p]That looks good! What is it?[p]And is that your chewing gum on the picture next to the plate?[p]aloha![p]Greg

BlueSmoke,[p]Ha! I'm not about to start making planks out of guava logs! It will have to remain a mystery.[p]Greg

What temp do you take the salmon up to.
-
barbqr-Ken,
gee, i don't know. .. i never measure internal temp of fish, i pull it when it feels right to me. .i like pretty rare in the center, so when the surface is just a little 'flakey' i pull it. ..sorry for not being more specific. ..
-
guava wood,
Leave it to the Hawaiian "Eye" to pick up on that.
-
jake42,[p]Can you re-use the planks? Or is it one and done? I just bought a bunch on sale earlier this fall and giving them away to various family members (and me) for Christmas but I've never used them.
-
Lawn Ranger,[p]Just a little gumshoe work on the side...
-
SyraQ,[p]Yea, you can reuse the planks, at least the BGE you can. My experience with a gas grill is one and done. My current plank as been used at least a dozen times, although it's getting near time to toss it in with the lump. Because I keep the egg around 300-350 degrees, controlled (no) flame the plank doesn't catch on fire.[p]I just wash the "food side" with soap and water when done.

guava wood,
Hmmmm......
I think that may just be a waded up piece of paper.
The meal was stuffed salmon though......pretty sure of that though.[p]
-
jake42,[p]My dad would like that! Do you have a recipe?
Thanks![p]Greg
