Looks outstanding. You ever cook them underground?

I have ate a long ton of raw oysters but never a raw clam. How do they compare to raw oysters?

I haven't eaten my share of both, but after growing up eating clams (raw) I now prefer oysters.
Clams are more likely to be very chewy.  You'll get the occasional one that is just right in terms of flavor and tenderness...but a lot more there you have to choke down.
Oysters on the other hand...as long as it is fresh, the biggest problem is too much sand or shell.  The meat is usually good and they're almost always tender.

Now a properly steamed clam sauteed in wine or dipped in butter.  Forgetaboutit!  :)

The water in Rhode Island is only 53 degrees so won't go clamming for about another month. But we have good seafood markets that have everything fresh. Big clams are chewy we use them for chowder between oysters and clams clams are easier to open both taste good.

Oh the memories of Rhode Island clams around Westerly, Shelter Harbor, and Lake Quani as an 18-22 year old.

I often wonder if our little clam cake shack we would stop at near Fenway still exists.

    Thanks for sharing-
