Grill Extender

Hi All,

I just bought my first Large Big Green Egg a couple of months ago, and I love it. I noticed on this forum that there was a group buy, on this grill extender, that over 80 people purchased. Just wondering if it is a good buy and would you recommend it.

I have heard lots of ppl frustrated with cheap grill extenders. Either they have a rod right down the center (taking up valuable surface area below) or they are too flimsy. I got a WOO3 Extender from The Ceramic Grill Store and it is an awesome product. Here is a link if you are curious:

It absolutely is. I helped set up the group buy and over 300 units were sold. I use it almost every cook. For 36 bucks(extender and grid) I can have 2 level cooking with the ability to move the top grid out of the way to access the lower.

I think you're talking about the BGE one. The group buy one has none of those issues.

You can accomplish the same effect with 4 1/4" bolts and another grid.

I have a 14 inch grid from and old smokey joe that I can use. Did you buy the standard or tall extender?

I was also looking at he one from the ceramic grill store and right now it is out of my price range

I bought the extender in the group buy and love it. I have a LBGE so I added a medium grate to go with the extender and it works great. Cooked 4 butts (total of 28 lbs) last weekend with 3 on the regular and a 6 lb butt on the top grate.

I had to play around with the placement of the bolts in reference to both grids and I was able to get it to work perfectly and hold meat just fine. Here are a couple pics for reference:

I saw this and made the mistake of not buying it. Instead I made an even bigger mistake by buying one ready built that swings (I don't want to name the company) looking back I spent $180 dollars for something I could have spend just $35 dollars or so that would do the very same thing.

The group buy was not just a grill extender as shown by @NDG above, it is a swing rack extender as shown by @GATABITES above. It is very strong and worth while.

I'm betting those that find it doesn't work for them, like @Serial_Griller, either have it set up incorrectly or bought a cheap second grid. Would be interested in what the problem is thought to be.

it works just fine. I bought the Adjustable rig last fall so i dont use it anymore. But I am keeping it for when I get my second egg. I have two grid set-up ready for when i get another. For the money, it well worth it.

Parts fit very loose,Sloppy fit

Grates were rotated 180' with same results.

IMO, your brackets are too close to the rim. (edit: and not oriented properly)

edit: just checked mine, I had the clamps running next to the 'spine' of the grids for better support, going to take a photo for you ...

Serial Griller , you want the clamps perpendicular to the direction of slope to control the tilting, the photos say it all ... Large grid over XL grid.... the tilt should be even less than shown if you use Medium grid over Large grid.
