Stainless Steel table: Cushioning the egg
Any ideas? BTW, I am getting a 6ft stainless table with the lower shelf adjustable up and down for $300 on casters. I am not a wood worker and so this would be the simplest way in my mind.
Edit to add: Thanks in advance. You guys have numerous ideas and I have confidence in you.

are you going to moving this around alot? how is the egg going to move?

I do not plan to move it around a lot, but on the chance that I do, I don't want to take any finish off the egg. I will have it on casters in the event the wind is blowing or I want to move it to see it from the patio door. I don't believe it will ever leave the property.

You might check how the sun hits our cooking area. Depending on geographic location, stainless can get hot to the touch during the summer months. twww.ceramicgrillstore.com ACGP, Inc.

i cant see the egg moving around on the table. are you putting firebricks under it? or the littel feet? you could but some rubber protective strip on the sharp edge, you might want that anyway to protect yourself, and take a dremel type tool to round off the edge. belt sander might work. I think the rubber strip is what i would do. you will probably have a half to an inch clearance around the egg. Heat should not be an issue.
as far as wind blowing it. the casters might have locks on them. i will bet it takes a lot to move that table with the egg in it.

I'm not sure how well you can tell from the picture, but mine sits on 1/2-3/4" raised stainless base. I have never had a problem with the egg moving when the lid is opened or the table is moved. The weight of the egg itself holds it in place.MikeOmaha, NE

That is a beautiful table. where did you get that?

Thanks Steve. I got the table from Mid-America Equipment in Hannibal, MO. At the time I bought it (a year and a half ago) I paid a little under $1000.00 shipped in it's current configuration. They are probably a little more now due to steel and fuel prices. Just FYI the drawers, casters and platesetter/grid holder on the side are options. Here is their contact information.Mid-America Equipment1-217-653-0654Ask for TimMikeOmaha, NE
