BBQ chicken

How do you make BBQ chicken? There are probably allot to methods mad meanings of BBQ chicken.
In my continuing quest to make chicken taste good other than spatchcock trying to make it good. It the past before the egg I would just throw chicken legs/wings/ breasts/ thighs and cook direct over a gas flame until we thought it was fond smothering the chicken in BBQ sauce.
Is this how you do it? Direct/indirect rubbed ya all? Marinaded at all?
Looking for good BBQ style chicken
Don't know when I will cook it but it's what I am craving at the moment.

For any type of poultry you can dramticcaly enhance the flavor by brining.

I like doing leg quarters at 325-350 raised direct. I take them to 170 and give them a light coat of sauce then pull them at 180ish.
We also really enjoy @Griffins "Hanging Chicken Legs".
