I snagged this 7-quart beauty at my local Walmart for a discounted price (damaged box). I've always wanted one for cooking on the BGE. I need some ideas on things I could make with it. Any suggestions? Photos welcome.

Don't cook using tomatoes or any other high acid food...it will eat the seasoning off. Bad for pot, bad for food.XL, JR, and more accessories than anyone would ever need near Olympia, WA

I don't think there's a whole lot wrong with using tomato based products in cast iron as long as you clean the pot as soon as it's done cooking and don't let the tomato sit in the pot as it cools.I've made plenty of chili, soups, taco meat, etc in cast iron on camping trips and in the egg. As long as you cleanse the cast iron soon after removing from heat I haven't had any problems. But I could be completely wrong as I have nothing scientific to back me up...I raise my kids, cook and golf. When work gets in the way I'm pissed, I'm pissed off 48 weeks a year.Inbetween Iowa and Colorado, not close to anything remotely entertaining outside of football season.

I did re-heat some pulled pork with a vinegar based sauce, and got a distinctive iron flavor, so I would avoid acidic foods. The chili I made however did not pick it up - I would say it was not as acidic.XLBGE, Small BGE, Homebrew and GuitarsRochester, NY
