Fogo is up to $41.57 today at Amazon.  $5 increase in less than a week.  Going up faster than gas here.  Not to worry, it's out of stock anyhow.  I guess the sale helped turn their inventory.

Just received my bag (box) of the below today.  I cut it open, reached in, and pulled out a piece the size of 3 fists.  Impressed, but since i just got it, and it's 40lbs, I havent cooked with it and dont know about the rest of the bag.  Paid $42.82 shipped (prime).

@danv23 I was just in Cumming last week and had a great pork chop at Coo Coo's Nest

I had four bags show up yesterday.  I still have some Forest Lumps in my shed, so I'll be hitting that stuff soon

Just received my second order of Fogo today.  On time and in excellent condition.  With the 8 remaining bags of RO and 2 35 lb Fogos, I'm set for a while. Will be watching for the price to come back down.  Thanks for the hint on camelcamelcamel.

You should have had the pork chunks. Holy ****. Awesome!!!

Okay, I'm new to lump charcoal.  What makes it better than the BGE lump?

Also, if you're in a pinch and can only get what the food store sells, is that Cowboy lump charcoal worth using?  Remember...in a pinch, when all they have is that and kingsford.

In a pinch, any hardwood charcoal will work.  The differences are in the size of the pieces, the quality (smell and taste) of the smoke, the amount of VOCs, the amount of ash produced, the amount of sparking, how it lights, and how hot and fast the charcoal cooks.

I find Fogo to be a fairly neutral smoke, it burns clean quickly, it doesn't produce much ash, and it comes in GIANT pieces - all good qualities for low and slow cooks.

The BGE/RO charcoal is by no means terrible.  I find the VOCs take longer to burn off and it produces a bit more ash, but overall it's very usable.  However with the convenience of to my door delivery in a day or two with Prime, I will take Fogo by a mile.

I've recently been trying some Ozark Oak, and while it has excellent qualities, I find it burns quite a bit hotter than either.  I've had to adjust my vent settings a bit - my Egg was up to 600 with a vent setting that normally puts me around 400 the other night.

It really comes down to preference.

Thanks, buz!   That answers a lot.

...but, I had to look up VOC to see what it meant.  ;)

Also, good to know that the Cowboy will get the job done if I run out of the good stuff.  I just didn't want to use anything that will "taint" my egg or negatively affect the flavor of the food.  I know good lump will improve the flavor.

I just finished off a bag of this. I think you will be pleased! VERY large pieces throughout. There was one piece in the bag that I actually had to break to get it to fit in the LBGE firebox.  It is pretty potent though and will definitely give your food a smokey taste on it's own.
