Not hatin', just wouldn't be my thang. Surely, there has to be other fun stuff to do in Austin.

I've never done it during the week so maybe it's a different vibe. It was full bloody mary bars, guitars, jam boxes and coolers full of beer last time I went.

Long lines are not normally my thing either but I've had fun when I've done Franklin's. It really is that good.

done..... but unless you are drinking the whole case (which I recommend) you will have leftovers. I don't do carppy lite anymore- unless I'm hunting and then it's by the case for hydration purposes only

Nope no mullet :-). I had cancer in my mid twenties and after chemo etc I began growing my hair (never had long hair before) and in this photo it was the 2nd time I donated 18" to Locks for Love. I would grow it again but, I'm happy to have given back to help. Every bit helps. But, I Am a hippie at heart. :-)

Best brisket I've ever had. Real good sausage and pork ribs. Tried some turkey and it was good but nothing outstanding.

totally cool. If anyone says anythinig you can just tell them that you are ordering food for them whether they stand with you or not. You can order anything you want so whether they are standing next to you or not is irrelevant. You can order 50lbs to take home like Cazzy but you probably won't get it for free like he did.....twice :(

Got there about 915 got food about 1. If you got there much later than me, would not get any brisket or ribs. They only had about 20 lbs brisket left when I ordered.

You can pay local hipsters to stand in line for you at Franklin's, so I imagine it is okay to keep a place in line for folks as long as you are planning to order the same amount of food whether standing by yourself or with 10 others.

That's why I mentioned it.

What's even better is when people who didn't dig out the spot claim it and start doing the chair/trash can thing. I see posts about it on a car site I frequent in the winter.

It's funny all around and I don't quite understand the grumpiness. The key is to be passive-aggressive. I have the same issue in front of my townhouse, we just don't do the chair thing in Maryland. The neighbor who is 2 doors down has her mother/sister living in the basement; she is REALLY lazy with parking. Our side of the street is "free-for-all" parking but there is a general understanding that the area in front of your townhouse is yours. She will park at the very end of the block(in a no parking zone) or around the corner(in front of a hydrant) so no one parks in front of her because she doesn't like parallel parking. When it snows, her attitude changes. I go out and diligently dig out my car and go to work. When I get home, she has moved her car into the spot I cleaned. I just go to the area in front of her car(she just backs right through the snow into the clear area) and move that snow back to the spot she took, so she now has to dig out.

I then don't have to deal with it the rest of the winter.

It's the best.

I'll be in that line exactly three weeks from this morning (Thursday). Passing through Austin and making sure that we don't miss Franklin's this time. I'm old, but I'll be there at 7a after flying in at about midnight the evening before from the West coast.

It's on the bucket list also and, like I said, I'm old. This is it.

There's almost no off-street parking in our neighborhood. We have an "illegal" driveway where Bridget parks her BMW, but 80% of the houses don't have anything, which makes the street the parking lot and it's public and a free-for-all.

My immediate neighbor to our south gets worked up whenever anyone parks in "his spot" directly in front of his house. He's always asking me if whoever owns the car in "his spot" is one of my friends, or if I'm having a party. I play stupid.

It never fails to amuse me how people get worked up over their spots in public streets....no snow removal efforts to "invest" in a spot, so this is different than eggcelsior's situation.

We have another driveway that we share with the other side neighbors....we let them park there even though there's a servitude agreement that no one parks and blocks it. I'm really good friends with them but she's weird about me driving my scooter through her yard trying to get it out from the back of the house, so she's been blocking that with a trash can. That kind of pissed me off so I stopped taking out their garbage and recycling..they'll only take it out if the cans are stuffed full. Passive aggressive...that's how I roll.

I saw it both in the county (my neighborhood in Pikesville and in Towson) as well as in Hampden. A coworker who lives over by Morgan said her neighbors were doing it too.

Even better. The neighbor between the one I just described is even better. They are this older couple that downsized from a big place near Gettysburg, PA. They have never bothered me but they rub my wife the wrong way. As of last week the feeling is mutual. The neighbor with the crappy parker has a college-aged daughter who drives a Civic. She was home from spring break last week and had her car parked in front of the PA people's place(who only park in their garage) for 2 days straight. I ran into the PA neighbors getting home one night last night and they asked me whose car it was. I explained that is was the daughter's car and how she was home for spring break. The wife then said that they were getting ready to call the city to report an abandoned vehicle since it had been there almost 72 hours. DAFUQ!?!?!?! They are bat sh!t crazy, my wife was right(as usual).

In regards to above, I am not saying that I am entitled to the spot I dug out. It's hard to describe without a picture. The plow comes by and puts up a 2 foot wall of snow along our vehicles, which I completely remove. She basically reverses between the curb and this "snow wall" into the area I shoveled(you can see the tread marks).

I don't care enough to not suffer fools gladly, but enough to be passive aggressive about it. I make sure my dog pees in their yard too.

Anyway, so that line for Franklin's kinda reminds me of a storied restaurant in the French Quarter here - Galatoire's. But not for the food as much as the whole experience, and to be seen there and to see who is there. Frequently people hire bums to hold their place in line (for the 1st floor). Friday has the long lines.

In 2004, Galatoire's was cited by the James Beard Foundation as the "outstanding restaurant" in America.^[2]

Until 1999, the restaurant did not accept reservations, leaving patrons to stand in long lines on the Bourbon Street sidewalk.
