Hi all -
I'm on vacation at my wife's grandparents near Winder, GA. Can anyone recommend some BBQ joints off the beaten path within a 30 min drive? I ate at Zebs yesterday. Wanting to try something different today.

This has been an interesting thread over on The Smoke Ring for the last year and a half or so. Don't think it's too far from Winder. Full disclosure that I have never been there but reviews on the site have been very favorable. It's also an interesting read if you have a lot of time to kill. Basically the definition of being at the in-laws!!Clarendon Hills, IL -
What side of winder are you on? I'm not to far from there but I really do not know of anything in the area.

@GaBGE I'm just across 316 in Statham near Wall Road. I might try out Moonies. My cousin lives up in Gainesville and that's real close to his house.
I haven't checked out Athens but there has to be some BBQ spots over there. -
@BuckeyeBob thanks for the link. Very helpful. That's close to my cousin. Wish I had posted this yesterday I was just up near there!

There's a place on Athens street called Po boys in downtown winder. They have great BBQ there.

Nick and Jim's in Suwanee. It was voted one of the best Chain BBQ joints in the US. Here's the link http://www.jimnnicks.com/

@sstripes96 I just ate Jim N Nicks the other night. KILLER biscuits and pretty decent brisket for a chain. I ate at the one in Duluth off exit 109 on 85.

There is actually a Fresh Air BBQ not to far in Bogart.Probably not quite the same as the Jackson location but might be worth a try. One note is Fresh Air uses a very thin vinegar-based sauce. If that is not your thing you may not care for it. I see many bad reviews because people don't like the sauce, and they don't offer a traditional thick/sweet sauce.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -
You aren't too far from Where There's Smoke BBQ in Monroe. Highly recommend. Brisket is amazing. http://www.wtsbbq.com/Cowboy's BBQ and Pippen's BBQ in Covington are also stand outs but may not be worth the trek for you. Cowboy's usually has country or bluegrass music on Saturday's. Pippens is no atmosphere but legit pork and rib BBQ.I live in Covington so that is why I'm versed in the area.Firing up the BGE in Covington, GA

http://www.thehickorypig.com/This is about 33 miles from Winder but worth the drive. AWESOME true Georgia BBQ.
