Horrible news today about a family that ran a great restaurant up the road from our office. They were Guyanese and really nice people. We were there at least once a week. Get yer Carbon Monoxide alarms plugged in folks!

Man they were so nice. The food was incredible. Their wings were so good and I asked the brother that passed away what his method was and he shared it freely. Damn!

I know that place . I used to drive by it daily when my office was out there . It's a sad story . That said I doubt we were going there as I can't see myself not needing to eat that quail every time I am in b-townToronto

Dude,
I had quail at the Inn on The Creek on Thursday night. It was like none I've ever had before. Ask Cali!

We lost a local family here a few years ago the same way. The wife was a police officer that did a huge amount in the local schools. They named the new school they built after her. Terrible that something like this can be so easily avoided. @LS is right. Plug in your CO detector, change your smoke alarm batteries etc (around here they tell everyone to change them when the clocks change and since they just did - change them)Mt Elgin Ontario - just a Large.

We got one at the restaurant after the manager at Legal Seafood was killed.

@hapster - How many did you buy for your home?seems like a nice product but expensive. im interested...XL BGEJoe JRBaltimore, MD

That made the news here and I always find these situations tragic. You are right LS, working carbon monoxide detectors are a must. We have two in our house, check them every year and replace them once every five just to make sure. Folks should always use caution if they are trying to generate heat using outside sources. During the 1998 ice storm that caused significant power outages, I heard some stories of people bringing their barbecues into their homes to generate heat leading to the same tragic ending.

@hapster: I've had the Nest thermostat since October. It rocks. I've cut my heating costs by a third.*******Owner of a large and a beloved mini in Philadelphia

We have two; they plug into the wall with a built-in rechargeable battery back-up. The only problem we've had with them is when there is a prolonged power outage. They start beeping to warn us that the batteries are being used and there's no stopping it! We lost power back around Christmas time for a day and 1/2 and I had to unplug the damn things, wrap them in towels (sort of a modified FTC I guess) and put them downstairs in the laundry room. Even then, if you listened carefully, you could still here the beep.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I think we got them at Home Depot. But, I'm sure Crappy Tire, Home Hardware, etc. would probably all carry them. And, while that beeping is a pita, I would never consider not having them!BTW, I see you're cooking at the Toronto Fest.... looking forward to meeting you there!---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti.
