Alignment issues

I purchased my Large Green Egg back in July and love this new addition to our family. During the Christmas break I built a wooden shelving unit/stand for my egg and made the mistake of removing the lid to save my back when lifting my porcelain princess. Unfortunately, I have yet to get the lid aligned properly since then. I've read multiple posts on this forum, scoured YouTube and consistently reached out to dealers for advice and have come up with nothing for the front to back alignment issue. I've been able to correct the side to side issue but cannot for the life of me figure out the front to back underbite situation. Can anyone please help? Should this be a Warrenty issue? Thanks in advance...

I would not think it's a warranty issue since you took the top off, I may be wrong. From what I read about the company they do seem fairly easy to work with so they may help.

Yeah, I've got a small underbite on my XL, less than 1/4", but will deal with it whenever I replace the gasket.

It won't affect the performance.

I've tried to follow this example for under/overbite but it unfortunately hasn't worked for me. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll keep trying.

Me too Rambo. I gave up and just live with a "1/4 overbite. Still cooks/smokes good.

I feel it has more to do with maintaining the correct gap between the bands. They have plastic spacers that are used during assembly now that are quite helpful. I would ask a dealer for a set of them and loosen everything up, align, and retighten. There are different spacers for different size eggs. Red for large, blue for XL, I think.

Thanks for that pgprescott ... My XL came assembled from the dealer & I never saw any spacers.
I'll check with the dealer & hope for the best.
I think my alignment issue happened while conducting the "dollar" test.
Egg was leaking smoke.

I have tried almost everything. Take off the hinge springs, loosen the bands, align and everything is perfect. Then I tighten and the top pulls back about 1/4". I finally gave up after many attempts to fix. Seems to cook/smoke just fine.

My buddy has a similar issue with his large. His dome actually wants to fall down. The spring won't hold properly. We are going to replace his gasket and try to deal with it then. His dome actually wore away the gasket in the back of the egg.

I've continued to cook this winter 3-4 times a week, no matter what the weather was outside and I developed that same issue about 2 weeks ago. Done the searches and watched the You-Tube videos (one really cool one), made what I thought were the appropriate adjustments. Nothing has worked. Gasket fine. It's irritating to watch the smoke escape from the front when it should be on the food. Looking forward to any suggestions.

Makes me wonder how many egg owners have this problem. Mine has an underbite and I have tried to adjust it several times. I have been able to improve it but over time it seems to go right back, I believe the band slips a bit on the bottom. I have a great seal when I do the dollar test so I guess I will just live with it being a bit offset.

you're buddy needs to research this. I think his whole hinge assembly is upside down.
