I see from the article hapster linked to that the lion meat is (supposed to be) from zoo and circus animals. From what little I know, big cats (and maybe little ones) in the wild eat a lot of carrion, and the flavor of the rotting flesh carries over. I suppose there's a better chance that captive animals received fresher meat.
As a btw, cats are unusual in that they don't taste sweet. Their big treat is "stinky." I guess they really like their meat aged.

We shouldn't take this lion down..........a catastrophe waiting to happen. I think this would make a paw meal. Do you eat it roar? Yada, Yada.

Use to eat at a restaurant in ct a few years ago chef always looked for exotic food had African lion once he said it's very tough because is so muscular . He ended up grinding it up for hamburger. Very expensive burgers he said they thin out herds an that's why they sell meat occasionally

Gimmicky. Doubt it they are real - sale of wild game is illegal, and there aren't a lot of domesticated big cat ranches dealing meat...
