Another rib quantity question
Did a 4 rack cook a while back (4 racks cut in half) by putting 6 of the eight 1/2 racks in my rack and leaned the other two halves on each side of the rack. All worked well.
Tomorrow I am pushing to do 5 racks (10 half racks) in my large BGE. I am considering not using the inverted rack and simply "leaning" the 10 half racks against each other and using gravity to hold them up. Five half racks on the left side slightly leaning right and five half racks on the ride side slightly leaning left. In theory it should work.
Anyone ever use this approach? Looking forward to the feedback.
Thanks,
Rajuncajun

I do 6 full racks at a time using the V Rack. It is a tight fit sometimes but I can get them all stuffed in there.

Thanks, Mross. Do you ever have issues with the ends extending beyond the OD of the plate setter? I am assuming you do them indirect. The problem with a problem is that you don't know it's a problem until it's a problem, and that is a big problem.

This was 8 half racks racks, a total of 6' of ribs using the v-rack, I could have added 2 more half racks by leaning them up on each side of the v-rack. Im sure they would have been pretty much still covered by the PS.

Thanks, Alberta. I do have the two-tier system you have there. I was going to try and cook all 5 racks at the lower level for the first 3 hours and then put in the second tier when I begin basting them at hours 4-5 1/2. You've given me hope that I can do it....thanks a bunch. The problem with a problem is that you don't know it's a problem until it's a problem, and that is a big problem.

Yes they extend into hot zones. I use the Kamada Joe heat deflector in my large since it is round and eliminates the dreaded hot zones.

...just another tip is you can also use foil or foil pans to extend the coverage of the indirect area.I do like the design of the KJ heat deflector. If I had it to do over again, I think I would buy that instead of the PS.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.
