Beautiful Day

Braving the 75 degree temps we're having. Figured it was the perfect day to start my next batch of beer. Bourbon barrel porter from Northern Brewery. Hope everybody else is having a Good Friday.imageimage

Got my sidekick Olie keeping me company while my other one Bodi is taking a nap with Mrs. G. She's worn out from working a trade show in Vegas for the past 8 days. Way too long to be in Vegas IMHO. Think I'll fire up the Egg and treat her to pizzas or calzones tonight.image

Looks good wish I was in 75*

I do a Bourbon Vanilla Imperial Porter.  One of my favorites though it takes a while with 2 decoctions.

Might have to add that to next weekends to do list.

  • Nice looking Shepard we are pretty happy around here in Minnesota to it is 0 degrees  or a couple of above. But on the good side I don't have to worry about keeping the beer cold.

OG was 1.073. More of a guess. Between 1.072 and 1.074. Nerdy scientist coming out in me. You can't call it that if you don't have those increments.

Sounds good.  Do you guys use soaked chips or a barrel to impart the bourbon flavor?

The kit comes with some "oak cubes" that you soak in 16 oz of Maker's Mark. Both get dumped into the secondary fermentation at some point.

My son in law makes wonderful beer, with orange in it,

My first batch was a hefeweizen with orange and coriander (think Blue Moon). Need to do some again but with a different yeast,

Great picture @hapster . Today wasn't as pretty. Currently 45. Tomorrow will be freezing and precip.

@berndcrisp thanks. That's my boy, friendliest GS ever. Never met a stranger.

@Hotch it's doing its thing. It was producing CO2 like crazy last night, so I pulled the airlock and replaced it with a blow off tube before going to bed. Good idea cuz it blew overnight. Good thing I let beer ferment in the guest shower. Easy cleanup. I'll save you one if you can wait till Thanksgiving.
