BGE Assembly/Set up question
I just got the call that my large BGE will be delivered/set up this afternoon! I am beyond excited and have lost all focus on everything non-BGE :-)
Any tips on what to check (assembly, seal, etc.) before the delivery/set up guy from the store leaves my house?

Be damn sure the lid will not fall out.........Lid being the top half..
Sit back and enjoy the ride. Where are you?

Make sure all bolts are tight, lid is centered on bottom, and make sure fire box and fire ring are not cracked. Then stat cooking

Where the base and the dome meet, make sure there is no overbite (or underbite of course), either front to back or side to side.Dollar bill test. Put a dollar bill on the gasket and close the dome. Try to pull the bill out. You should feel resistance (about the same amount) all the way around.Check for cracks in any of the ceramic parts. Not likely, but hey, maybe they let the airport baggage gorilla handle it.Enjoy!!
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Follow the instructions step by step as they are well written. A torque wrench will give you piece of mind when you clamp the dome to the base. Check the the torque after each cook when it cools down. Slow and easy with the heat in the beginning. And dust off your digital camera!LARGE, MINI BGE SAN DIEGO, CA An alcoholic with a barbecuing problem.

Check if it has an underbite like this: (on my delivered egg),I had to redo the install which improved it, but I could never get it 100% but as long as it passes the dollar test I was fine, my gasket has yet to fail on me after 6 months.

Make sure you have everything you paid for.
Ask them to show you where the serial # is and record it, then register it online at BGE!!
Put your receipt in a place you can find it later. You may need it.
I never know where it is but my wife does.
Post your pictures or it did not happen.
And welcome to the herd. Enjoy the ride.

First time I grilled a burger, I fried the gasket. Do yourself a favor and order your Rutland gasket now. That way, you'll be ready when your gasket gets trashed.

Try a Spatchcock Chicken or a Vertical chicken first. They will be so much better than any chicken you have ever cooked. Pretty easy too. Have fun!XL BGE; Medium BGE; L BGE

jamco, vertical is beer can. Spatchcock is when you cut out the backbone and open the bird like a book.Lay it out flat on the grid. Very tasty and cooks in a fraction of the time. I do mine with the grid raised up to the gasket level, direct heat, 400°. However, I saw a post the other day that makes me want to try spatchcocked chicken indirect. Sounded good.

Looks just like mine. Not sure how to fix it and have readjusted several time but seems to always have an underbite. Oh well, cooks fine.
