OT but highly relevant to our pursuit of culinary greatness........ Do any of you use vacuum sealers? If so, which one? Are they worth the investment? They look huge... thanks! Parker

+1 for the Food Saver. Does a good job but the bags are a little pricey.Palm City, FL

food saver is decent but depending on what your budget is you might want to take a look at a chamber machine by VacMaster. Hands down the best type of vacuum sealer. The way it works is you put your food in a bag (which unlike the Food Saver bags, are dirt cheap) then you put the bag in the chamber. The air is sucked out of the chamber and then the bag is sealed, once sealed air is blown back into the chamber and boosh its vacuum packed. They are expensive but worth it in the long run. It works great on on everything and is better for wet meats or fish as it will not suck the juice out of the meat and bag.Update: the bags on their website are on sale for $28.99 for a 500 count box, thats $0.17 per bag, I have seen them cheaper but it is not a bad price

Well even more than the budgetary issue with the vacmaster is the space issue...they look MASSIVE. I'd probably be served divorce papers if I tried to put that on the counter....Dallas,TX

I bought a foodsaver and am glad I did cause I use it quite alot and it's probably paid for itself in the year I've had it. Now that I know how much I use it and would miss it, if I had to get a replacement, I'd probably spend a little more and get a better one.

I've had one of the original Foodsavers for about twelve or so years. Cheap as chips and works like a charm. This thing would suck a golf ball thru a garden hose!

I have the Gamesaver Silver kit and am happy with it, but right now Cabellas has their vac sealer on Christmas sale and it looks heavy duty. Visit their website.A poor widows son.

I bought a Weston Pro Series sealer a few weeks ago. I have done a fair amount of sealing with it and I'm more than happy. They are expensive, but my main motivation for springing for one of these is that you can get replacements for EVERY part on the machine. These are not throw-away units like so many things are these days.I also bought a 50' roll of 11" wide bags. You cut to whatever length you need, seal one end, fill, and seal the other end. We have also cut them in half lengthwise and made 5.5" wide bags for smaller stuff. A roll of this is $20 through Weston. Still working on the first roll and we've sealed a bunch of stuff so far.
