+1 I have played with all the lighting implements BGE electric starter,Looft lighter,BGE fire starters and of corse the Mapp torch and IMO their is nothing better then the Mapp torch !!!2 Large Eggs and a Mini 2 Pit Bulls and a Pork shoulder or butt nearby and 100% SICILIANLong Island N.Y.

I got it at Home Depot and it was $60 but I am in Toronto so the price will be a bit less in the States (I would imagine.
the Ts8000 apparently burns 30 % higher than the ts4000 .

I use a weed burner. I can't remember how much it was, but it was not $60. Here's a photo of what I use from Lowes.

I also have the old fashioned electric starter that I bought at the same time as my first egg and a box of starter cubes and I would never be adversed to using the oil soaked paper towel route!

Coleman the tent maker sells something similar to a mapp or propane torch but only lights when theres fire infrot of it, its made to start campfires but for 7$ It was way cheaper than a mapp torch and its almost 3 feet long so you are away from the sparks aswell

The TS8000 has aluminum threads, so either leave the head on the bottle or be very careful each time you re-attach to the MAP bottle. They wear down quickly.

Oh Damn. I first read vag oil soaked paper towels. Whew! -
Everyone in the know uses liquid oxygen to light lump. Absolutely no aftertaste and 700°F in 30 seconds flat.. >:)A poor widows son.
