Happy thanksgiving to those south of the boarder. Hope you have a great weekend.
I have a small problem...we picked up some 1-1.5" thick pork chops, been waiting all day to throw them on the egg. Get home and as the thread suggests, I can't open the egg! Looks like the felt is frozen. We have only had a bit of snow but the lid and the topper are stuck big time. Can't move either.
I guess a cover will help keep the moisture out of the felt but how do I get it open for the next BBQ (have to put the chops on the gas standby). I was thinking of using a propane torch to carefully thaw the felt, is that OK or a really bad idea?

ive read somewhere on here to soak a paper towl in cooking oil, light it and toss it through the top of the egg. give it a few min and the felt will break looseXL bge, Mini max & 36 BS Griddle.

If the bottom vent will open, oil soaked paper towel, or lit starter cube in the bottom works as well. If you have lump in the Egg, it will also light the lump for you. In a few minutes you will be good to go.__________________________________________It's not a science, it's an art. And it's flawed.- Camp Hill, PA

I would not use a torch on the gasket - unless you want to replace it soon.__________________________________________It's not a science, it's an art. And it's flawed.- Camp Hill, PA

I had this last week and lighting a starter block in the bottom of it started my lump going and it thawed out in a bit. I had a done temp of 275 and it was still froze shut but just wait for it.
