I saw Fred's YouTube video about this, it looks pretty interesting. Kind of neat how there is the grill on the top of the platesetter for burgers or whatever.

Could be an option if you bust your PS and don't currently Have a CI skillet or cook top.Dave - Austin, TX

It would be great for reverse sear. Have it in legs up position with the grid for the roast and crank the heat and remove the grid for the sear. Just like searing in a skillet.

Would cast iron deflect or absorb the heat as well as the ceramic?I raise my kids, cook and golf. When work gets in the way I'm pissed, I'm pissed off 48 weeks a year.Inbetween Iowa and Colorado, not close to anything remotely entertaining outside of football season.

Kind of like the Tuff Guys I had fabbed :http://eggheadforum.com/discussion/1151065/introducing-the-tuff-guyMine dont have the ridged surface though.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

I think it would work the same for deflection.

The ceramic platesetter radiates heat once its hot and the CI platesetter would as well. Since CI is a better heat conductor than ceramics, I would think it would give off a bit more heat. Both materials deflect the direct heat from the fire which is its job. I happen to think a grill surface is a gimmick and ironic since the platesetter is made for a grill. The bonus of the CI is durability.Flint, Michigan
