Uses for Ghost Peppers?

I have received around 15 green ghost peppers and , while I like hot food, these take hot up several orders of magnitude.  I believe MCN made a hot sauce from some.  Looking for recipes/ ideas for use.  ( I have several pairs of gloves ready but will not be working with them inside a glove-bag:)).

  • If you use those in any recipe your gonna be in a world of hurt my friend.  I messed up and orderd some from england a few years ago, and added some in a pot of chili I made.  Just a tiny amount, and it ruined the chili, I had to throw it out.  After that I did find one use for them.  Wait till your friends are good and tipsy and pull them out.  You want to wait till their are atleast 2 friends around so you can sit back and instigate the whole thing. After a few times of telling them they wont try one, somebody will take the bait.

I do use habanero on a pretty regular basis in things I cook, so I like hot stuff.  Just not ghost pepper hot!

  • A friend in the Okanagan grew some peppers that were said to be ghost peppers, like Chuck noted, he ruined some food - they were just too hot. The only use he found was making an oil to be used in cooking, problem is from only a few peppers he has enough to last centuries. Good luck finding a use for 15!

Mmmmm, ghost peppers.  I love 'em.  Yeah, they're scorching hot but I've eaten a whole habanero raw…just put it in my mouth and chewed.  Yep, it was uncomfortable and I won't be doing it again, but using 1/2 of a ghost pepper cut up and sprinkled on a pan of enchiladas is heaven!

@Cookinbob-I have checked out several recipes and you tube offerings.  Just thought I would see if there were any good ideas from the forum.  I do have habenero sea salt and that's far enough up the scoville scale for me.

Sounds like I may have to send most to @New2Q!

below is the slightly cleaned up version of the e-mail i sent tuesday evening after simmering adp's in salted vinegar [in the house] to make my version of tobasco
yes i was ill for 36 hours after and like zippy i will not do this again.. unlike zippy i cannot eat adp

caveman’s club you to death sauce made with real Arkansas death peppers

33 adp’s 1 ½ cups vinegar , 1 ¼ teaspoon Maine sea salt. 1 teaspoon turbindo sugar yields 6x 50 ml containers of ccytd sauce or 1.2 cups..

There was some waste ,, like when I turned on the blender and the almost boiling vinegar pepper mash exploded out the top of the blender,, I forgot hot stuff in the blender explodes and yes I had my hand and a towel on the top,,,, the kitchen and cupboards are splattered with it ,,, [note to self: Arkansas death peppers , like Japanese knives , do not mix well with adult beverages]
. Some more waste with the vacuum packing process. As this was a first attempt and the ccytds was heated to boiling and put into boiled bottles and vacuum was attempted ///// I would store in the fridge.. the shaker top may clog and need to be removed, I opened the orifice but it may not be enough ,, I really don’t give a flying f_ _k if pours out on your food or not ,, if you are dumb enough to try one drop you can try a bunch..

Now for the story behind the story with your friend
    Dr. Obvious….
My f_ _ _ _ _ _ _ kitchen is covered in vinegared death pepper mash. Imagine going to a health club for a steam bath but instead of water the room is filled with vaporized franks hot sauce till it drips off the end of your nose like Emily littela and joyce brothers at the health club on Saturday night live. The splatter on my neck has blistered , my lungs are hacking up mucus. My skin burns on my face and arms, I can barely see.. my lips and nose , thankfully, have gone numb as the nerve endings are rendered forever useless.
My youngest child, who has not spoken to his mother in 2 months, crept out of the house on his hands and knees [like the place was filled with smoke from a fire] and went to study at his mother’ house. All the doors and windows are open and 5 fans are going.
After 3 glasses of wine , I have to pee and I am afraid to touch my **** or even get it out of my pants for fear, it too, will blister .
I will be mailing the sauce to Mr.’s JLockhart29 ,Zippylip and Beanie Bean this week.. in plain brown wrapping without a return address , just like the porn you get in the mail . please delete this e-mail so I do not get found out when you go into convulsions and end up in the hospital .. I believe this is called plausible deniability.
I really have to pee if there is anyone in the immediate area willing to help please show up asap . I have latex gloves if you don’t want to touch it ..

@LS-that is funny!! I just may have to "declare victory" with this project and move on.  I did not ask for these; as a matter of fact SWMBO brought them home from "a friend".  Upon further review, this is likely a set-up, revenge for something I clearly cannot recall :)>- After all, who would purposely grow these things??

  • I bought some dried ones from Trader Joe's. Like everyone else I used them in food once. I like hot but they are way, way beyond hot. After that I mixed them with boiling to make a spray to keep the deer from eating my roses, works!

Oddly enough bill sent me a couple of bottles of that sauce which he ultimately named Caveman- Drag her by the hair sauce and it was really good.

  • They might be used to make a pretty fair deer repellent for the wife's garden.  I would just be afraid the drippings might get into the soil and ignite the nearby plants. LOL

I was not suggesting  a recipe search.  I love the videos of tough guys trying to eat ghost peppers!
