Thinking about winter camping

Looking back through some pictures....getting nostalgic.

Last year (and every year), 11 of my buddies and I pack up the EGGs and head for the high country in West Virginia in the dead of winter. Here is my small EGG holding some steaks I seared off on the large. Some people call it "roughing it" I guess, but dang it's fun.

As the leaves turn and the days get shorter, I am jonesing for getting out there again. Yeah, the small is gasketless at that point, but it has had a bunch of use, and still works just fine, even in the single digit temps we had this day. Just reminiscing. Hope yall are well!

After arriving at Dulles today when it's 72*, I have to remind myself that you guys get the same cold weather that we get.  It was 38* when I left Nebraska this morning.  See you tomorrow at Dizzy School Chris.

Hey Mike. Look forward to seeing you.  It won't be 72 when you leave Sunday!

Caliking, those are, indeed, grate mates.
    Cheers

  • I like fall and winter camping.  It's fun to rough it  - be one with nature.  I was in a deer camp with my buddies yesterday, and we made do with what we had.

How do you manage to watch a ball game on such a small TV?

Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I'm not sure what Peggy does different, if anything. But it's the one dish she's kind of made her own.

  • Why would you guys go camping when  you had to ware Mickey Mouse boots? Thats just too much.
Be careful, man! I've got a beverage here.

I told you.  We were roughing it.  Basic human survival skills.  You find out what you're made of out there in the wilderness.  Some don't make it.

  • Very cool! Where did you get those grid raising brackets?

  • Glad you had fun and I guess you didn't have to deal with bugs and snakes.
I can't begin to think of another reason to do it in winter. Maybe that the beer is cold even without ice in the cooler?

Chris - one of my favorite stories you told was the year your buddy took his new expensive HumVee on that outing and didn't it get stuck and he had a devil of a time getting it out?

RRP, actually he flipped his Hummer over a bridge onto it's roof half way in a creek. It was a trip-ender before the trip began.
