Went to the area flea market today, and.........

Thought I would tivo the game today (Never do that,always watch live), and go to the local flea market for it's last day of the season. Was talking to friends and mentioned the latest to come off my large BGE, when a lady stopped and asked if I was talking about a BGE. she said her boyfriend had a mini BGE he was going to sell, as they were moving to Colorado and were downsizing to the max, and didn't have room for it. I went to look at it, at their flea market stand and he had to run home to get it. When he brought it back, it looked pretty darn good.....used, but good.Structurally sound, however it was missing the handle, and I would like to know where to find one for it. I may also replace the cooking stainless grate sometime in the near future. I've wanted one since the Eggfest to go along with the Large, but couldn't spring for a new one at this time. I walked away with the used one for $50.

Any help on the handle?

    Awesome score. Dannys wood carvings for a custom handle or contact the mothership for a replacement.

    I am guessing it has the old band with the handle that hangs down? If so don't get a new handle upgrade to the new band. The new band is $60 but it is worth it with how much nicer it is and it allows the egg to open all the way which the old band didn't.

    Great score! If you or someone is handy then you make your own handle which replaces the hang down "bail" type handle. This is the solid one I made for my older style mini as I did not like the bail handle. It just takes 4 simple bends of a piece of strap steel to make it and a couple bolts with nuts.image

    Ooops - so there is no misunderstanding - I made the metal strap part of the handle to replace the hanging handle, but the cool wooden part was a Lawn Ranger original!

    Here's the "Little Darlin'".
    *Need to replace handle....May just get all new clamps;
    *Temp gauge still accurate, but will have to get a new spring clamp, as it won't tighten down;
    *Daisy wheel sure needs a cleaning.....Will put it on it's big brother on next hot burn and let it burn off as much as possible.
    I'm looking at putting a few bucks into it, but for what I paid for it, I'm happy!

    I would not use that nest but if you do please search old threads about modifying it. There were posts where the egg tried to expand and the nest didn't let it and the bottom cracked out of the minis. Nice score though. I would update the band to the newer one for $60 you will be happy you did.

    Thanks for info about the nest. I will look for an alternative.

    About the nest -  i wonder if you could cut through  the top ring of the stand,  in the front.  Would likely allow for some expansion as the base expands and contracts.  This is purely speculative though,  and you may not want to try it since you dont have the warranty.  But if the high heat tape mod works,  then cutting the ring be sufficient.  Similar to why the firebox has a cut in it nowadays.
