clean burn

Did a clean burn tonite after my cook. Got her up to 900f! Noticed the fire in the ash, is this normal , or ok?image

  • Yes. When you get up that high it's like lava. Ha! Seriously though, that's totally normal. Just hot ambers falling thought the grate.

    Yes it is, but I would not have left my dome thermometer in during the burn off, but it sounds like you did. May I suggest you check the calibration before doing your next cook?

    As a matter of fact, an old wood stove trick is to keep about 1/2" or more of ash in the bottom of the stove, protects the fire bricks. When I clean out my ash, I toss some of the small unburned lump back into the bottom, it will catch and burn on the next cook. Why waste it. 
    Like RRP says, pull the dome thermo when you nuclear.
