My Egg Table

After nearly two months of slow, deliberate construction (and a bit of flack from the wife), my Large Egg finally has a new home! Built it right on the deck off the kitchen! At over 400 pounds, I better hope we stay at the house for a few years as there is no way it will make a move!!

Table frame built with 2X4s and 4X4s. Cement backer board. Mastic adhesive with slate 14X6 natural stone interlocking pieces. Cedar wood tops and doors stained with simple router edges.

I spent hours looking at hundreds and hundreds of table designs finding what worked best for me. If you want more details, just let me know!

  • Sorry guys.  Have been absent from forum for a few weeks.

@ Aquacop.  It totalled right around 650 bucks, but could have been alot cheaper if I would have used different stone.

@GATraveller.  I don't have formal plans, but took many more pictures that you could look at and probably get a good idea what it took to put together. Let me know.

That table is exactly what I want to do.  I'm not nearly as handy as my father-in-law when it comes to this sort of thing but I'm one helluva apprentice.  I'll have him take a look at what you've put up so far but any other pics you can post would be helpful.  Thanks for sharing!!!

  • Looks great! What are the round pieces on the table top to the right of the egg?
Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I'm not sure what Peggy does different, if anything. But it's the one dish she's kind of made her own.

Thanks for the additional pictures! I will try to repeat the design...
  • I took these photos to a local carpenter and he quoted me $4K to build this out.  I think you could start a small business with this table.
  • Sorry guys, I clearly don't get on this forum as much as I should! Just get me your emails and I will send you all the pictures I have of the table! Thanks for all the great feedback. I love my Egg Table and best of all so does my wife!
