They sound interesting but I still prefer using 91% alcohol from Walmart which produces a quick start and is ordorless and probably cheaper than Fatwood.

this is cheaper and easy to make ahead for a years worth of starts. should update it as i put the napkins lit thru the lower vent now, no need to touch the lump and get all sooted up.

I would not recommend using it in your egg! Fireplace is OK etc and yes it will light fast. Problem is fat wood is the resin filled heartwood of pine trees and produces an oily, sooty smoke with heavy creosote - in fact it was used to make pitch and pine tar. Glue up your boat, but don't gum up your egg!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

I would not use it because it uses parafin as the "fuel" Not good for the egg.

I just use paper towel soaked with vegetable oil, or bacon grease! Works great! :-\"

Paraffin is completely safe in the egg. At least BGE thinks so since the combination of paraffin wax and sawdust is what makes their branded firestarters.onedbguru said:I would not use it because it uses parafin as the "fuel" Not good for the egg.
