I've posted a few threads about cooks I've done from Adam Perry Lang's Serious Barbecue cookbook.  If you've read those posts, this is going to be redundant: his book is kind of a masterpiece.  Each time I cook from it, I walk away going, "Well, that was the best thing I've ever cooked."  Beyond simply giving you recipes, the text ends up being very instructive.  He uses techniques that can be applied to cooks of your own design, things like wrapping mixtures and finishing dressings.  Basically, it gets you cooking amazing food and learning quite a bit in the process.  So my vote for number one cookbook is definitely Serious Barbecue.  I haven't read his other, Charred and Scruffed, but I'm sure it's good.  I've also got a cookbook called Good Meat, which is excellent.

I'm pretty sure they are the same.  Mine is the second addition (also recently procured from Barnes and Noble).  Post pics of the tri tip when you finish!

One of my favorites is "Weber's Way to Grill" by Jamie Purviance.  A really good book with super illustrations.  This book started me making Paella among other things.
